Laboratories
Simultaneous Interpreting Training Laboratory (SITL)
Simultaneous Interpreting Training Laboratory (SITL) of the department was established to prepare students for interpreting in a realistic environment. The booths can accommodate two interpreters at the same time and there are 13 booths in total in the laboratory. There is also a table present for an audience of 20 people. Therefore, it allows 46 students to receive interpreting training at the same time.
SITL is used for consecutive and sight interpreting training as well as simultaneous interpreting training.
In the laboratory, which is equipped with a computer system, internet connection, and a system suitable for the use of satellite television broadcasts, students have the opportunity to record their simultaneous interpreting exercises and evaluate their success later in order to improve themselves.
Booths that can accommodate two interpreters at the same time are designed to train students to work as a team, as in real life, and to interpret in a relay mode in coordination with an interpreter in the next booth. This system allows students to practice in groups according to their abilities and levels. Since as many groups as desired can be formed, it is possible to provide training in accordance with the specifications of the students.
Since the change in our undergraduate programme in 2009, which separated the translator and interpreter training groups from each other, according to our experiences gained in the past two years, it is possible to provide much more qualified interpreter training to a group of 10-15 people.
Graduate Research Laboratory
The graduate research laboratory, established in accordance with Hacettepe University's recycling and sustainability policies as of 2024, will serve the studies of graduate researchers in the field with software and devices such as eye tracking devices, galvanic skin response, keylogging, etc. which will be acquired through projects.
